One West Waikiki (1995-1996) is a high-gloss, romantic comedy-drama set in Hawaii, created by Glen A. Larson. His inimitable storytelling and the unmistakable charisma of Cheryl Ladd and Richard Burgi combine to make One West Waikiki a hot new series.
Forensics
expert, Dr. Dawn 'Holli' Holliday (Cheryl
Ladd) is hired away from the Los Angeles Coroner's office to be the
State of Hawaii's new Medical Examiner. With a jurisdiction which stretches
from the Hawaiian Islands to American Samoa and all points in between,
it is a dream assignment, pitting Holli's cutting edge knowledge of Forensic
Medicine and Homicide against the explosive world of crime in the burgeoning
world of the Pacific Rim. Using all of those latest forensic skills so
dominating the headlines in this era of the 'big trial,' Holli often finds
herself at odds with the more conventional methods of Honolulu P.D., especially
top homicide detective, Lt. Mack Wolfe (Richard
Burgi), with whom she immediately develops a volatile, love-hate relationship.
Mack is hard-headed, impulsive, and dismissive of modern science, but there's
no one you'd rather have covering your back in a dangerous situation. This
could the beginning of a beautiful, if sometimes impossible, friendship.
When
Holli first arrives, Mack is just coming off suspension, trying to clear
his name after his partner is killed with Mack's own gun. Mack uses his
tongue-in-cheek humor to insulate himself from the ugly realities of his
job. A veteran of several failed relationships, including two marriages,
he is nonetheless intrigued by the arrival of the beautiful and brainy
new medical examiner. Of course, her logical, scientific approach to murder
is diametrically opposite to his intuitive, go-with-your-gut style. However,
she's gorgeous....he's handsome -- and you know what they say about opposites
attracting, especially on those tropical nights in paradise.
Rounding
out the cast is Captain Dave Herzog (Paul
Gleason), a by-the-book cop who has to keep his friend, Mack, out of
trouble;
Nui
Shaw (Elsie Sniffen),
an ambitious field investigator for the State of Hawaii's Medical Examiner's
office who Holli recruits early on to assist with her forensic investigations;
and
Kimo
(Ogie Zulueta), a forensics
technician in the PD and a friend of Mack's.
When there's murder in paradise, whether they're looking through a microscope or knocking down a door, Holli and Mack are on the job at One West Waikiki.
